All about Laedo

Avengaea is an original fantasy world created by
jkatkina from 2002 to present. It is characterized by its two major landmasses, Novinitu to the North and Oppiuk to the South, which play host to two living Goddesses and the creatures that they have spawned. Aska (patron Goddess to the asandae) and Zenite (patron Goddess to the caetrans) are diametrically opposed beings of light and darkness, unable to tolerate one another's presence but being too equally matched to drive the other back.
Because of this, their recipient species are locked in a ceaseless religious war, receiving magical boons in an arms-race against one another. They are not the only people to inhabit this planet: humans emigrated long enough ago that their origin is a mystery, and a highly morphic species known colloquially as 'daemons' have infested every niche within all three societies from even longer back.
The humans of Novinitu have roughly fallen under the role of beneficiaries of their asandus guides and overseers, while the humans unlucky enough to live in Oppiuk are often hunted and traded as slaves or prey amongst caetrans. There is a real, mostly independent faction of humans along the Horn Coast where the two continents meet, but their civilization is infested by both of the larger species, and underhanded warring and black market trading leave the entire nation-state a corrupt and dangerous place. The Daemon Isles, located far from either continent, are little known or explored by the other species. Only tales passed on from sea-faring merchants and the aquatic races make it back to the continents, and those are often of a barbarous nature.

When Aska created her children, she specialized their appearances significantly to represent herself and four Lords that she uplifted, creating five races (and later a sixth) with similar abilities but vastly different appearances.
Askan asandae are known for their iridescent white fur. Most have gold accents, from a strip along their belly to mottled patches, but others range different pastel hues of the rainbow. As direct representatives of Aska, these asandae tend to take a dictatorial approach to life, seizing leadership and guiding everyone else around them whether they want it or not. Laedo is a member of this race.
Riyalan asandae represent Riyalus, and over time they have come to take on a variety of red, orange and yellow hues, along with far shaggier fur. Riyalans can be found wide-ranged across Novinitu, being nomadic in extended family clusters and trading every kind of good imaginable.
Makanan asandae represent Makani, with golden fur and silver wings. They tend to be seen as more aloof, living amongst their own kind deep within the Ansaras mountain system in remote eyries. It should be noted that makanans cultivate a mystique built around the very real but very rare bloodline within their race that can see fragments of timelines past and future.
Niteshan asandae, represented by Nitesh, are semi-vegetal brown and green creatures who lead incredibly insular lives spread out in the uncivilized vastness of the continent. They have been known to burst into flowers at various points in their life, and some have been found rooted into the earth like ancient trees.
Cascan asandae, represented by Casca, are aquatic blue creatures known for colonizing off-shore bubble cities to guard Novinitu's coast-line. Within the last generation, more cascan asandae have been giving birth to very different looking offspring. Though also blue, these much smaller children show few of the same coral-webbed designs of their parents. Little has been shared from Aska or Casca, leaving this water race alarmed and increasingly xenophobic.
The seat of Aska's power resides deep in the Ansaras mountains. Sanctuary, a dome-city carved of spires of mountain and held together by a vast and intricate network of magic, houses a council mostly composed of askan asandae, with high leaders of the other races taking up less than half the entire seats combined. The rest of the city's population is similarly composed.
From here, asandae have a direct line to Aska and her four Lords, and a complicated hierarchy of priests known as fida'venae have evolved to screen the Goddess' calls. The council, composed of fida'venae, politicians, and military leaders, decide the continent's policies, and those are carried out by branches of asandus politicians that have made a home for themselves in every city-state and village across the rest of the continent.
These include human settlements, which are allowed to be seen as partially independent--especially those settlements that provide raw resources for the rest of the continent. Asandus diplomats (usually one, but as many as a delegation of thirty or more in the largest non-asandus cities) delegate Sanctuary's policy's, following strict guidelines to uplift humans but also to indebt them to the use of magic. What Sanctuary cannot pay off in bribes of magic assistance (often replacing technology with a network of spells), they send their military branch, the Guard, to deal with.
